how many things can i plug into my car cigarette lighter?
i want to hook up my 3 emergency lights i have cause of being a volunteer EMS provider. i want to plug all 3 into my cigg lighter outlet, can it handle it? i have a adapter that plugs into it, and allows you to plug in 3 things.will this work? or will i blow a fuse?

ANSWER:
It is not really a question of how many things you can plug into it. You have to check the ampere consumption (i.e., the constant current required) by your “things”. It is not even a question of wattage of your emergency lights but its amperes. Normally a cigarette lighter outlet has 15 amperes. Thus, check the ampere rating of each individual gadget that you would be using simultaneously add it up and you will have the total ampere requirement. If said total ampere is much more than the amperage of your cigarette lighter then you will fry normally your fuse and worse your wiring. Being a volunteer EMS provider better have a qualified vehicle electrician install specific outlets for your high ampere lights. Otherwise you might end up at the receiving end of help rather than providing it.

Emergency Light buzzes when tested?
This is different from a similar question asked of buzzing when not tested.Last June, I bought and installed a plug-in Utilitech Emergency Light from my local Lowes and installed it in an office where I work. Recently when I went to test it, the lights did not illuminate and the unit made a buzzing sound. The sound stopped when the test button was released. The same thing happens when the unit is unplugged.
What could be the problem and/or possible solution? As mentioned, the unit has been in use for a little less than nine months.

The problem is that the battery is no good. This should not be the case in a unit that is 9 months old. The battery is dead for one of three reasons.
I: It was a defective battery from the start ( unlikely )
2 : The unit has a defective charger that is not charging (most probable)
3: The unit is overcharging & has fried the battery ( it usually will make the battery bulge)In any case take the whole thing back and get a new one.

how does emergency lighting work?
Like in a commercial building. Can you buy battery powered commercial lighting thats not connected to a 120volt plug? and what activates emergency lighting?
i figured, that the emergency lights would have to be connected to a 120 power supply from the building to be activated when power is cut. i just dont see how these emergency lights are triggered. unless they are connected to the buildings power?-

Emergency lighting is always connected to the AC power, both to keep the batteries charged and to detect when to turn on.If it were not connected to the AC power, how would you charge the batteries?
To repeat, the system is triggered by the AC power going to 0, probably by something as simple as a relay across the AC power leads.

QUESTION:
why would a 3 phase back up generator cause plug tester to light up all three lights?
These are emergency outlets in a Nursing/Rehab Facility. When system is on normal street power the outlets test correctly, but when the generator is engaged and power is transferred the outlet tester lights up all three lights. Tested the hot and neutral separately and got voltage at both. This is a 3 phase generator and the problem tests the same at all receptacles in the system. Thanks for any guidance it’s late and I’m stumped.-

1. Check that the generator is ground bonded to your facility.
2. Check that your generator neutral is tied to the building neutral.
3. Check that the phase(hot) legs are connected to the building hot leg terminals.
4. With a volt meter & with the generator running. Check that the neutral to ground gives you zero voltage reading.
5. I’m not sure of the effects of CGFI in this circuit. Worth noting though
6. With a volt meter & with the generator running. Check that each outlet only has 120 volts. (Phase to neutral or Phase to ground)

Yes, but in most states unless your car is considered an emergency vehicle, or you are a volunteer firefighter with the permission of the chief, you aren’t allowed to run amber emergency lights.

Star says he doesn’t have to. But then the GM Rooster comes down and tells Star, that Koum will get a rematch tonight!
After the ring is cleared out, Jim#1 comes down to the ring with the Xplosion title he stole from Damaja D on Sunday. Chris Billington then comes down and says you cost me the title. And I want the title now! Damaja comes out at the top of the ramp and says you two are forgetting something, I am the real champ! GM Rooster comes down and announces for out PPV next month, at Total Destruction, a Triple Threat for the Xplosion title! But tonight, Damaja has a one on one match with Jim#1. And if Damaja wins, he gets his title back!
Alright, for our first match, we have P Mc vs. CmS w/ Mac Dj for the special guest referee. The match starts off w/ P Mc in the lead, but whenever there is a pin, Mac can’t decide to help P Mc or CmS. P Mc flattens CmS with a spinebuster. But Mac counts a slow two count. It depends no the type and name brand! Most of them ask that you turn it off for the first day to leave it charge and the the next day turn it on and then it should work that night and keep working with out being touched for months. If you have cheap solar light then you more than likely will need to keep it in some place were it can get sun everyday, as most need direct or indirect sunlight to keep charged and working. They say you should replace the solar batteries once a year but most people don’t do that! Good luck.

Any form of bright light will do, but sunlight, because it is so bright, works best. The three day initial charge is needed only for the first time, if at all, and after that you can simply recharge them during the day and recharge them at night. Another thing to try would be this: your typical solar garden lantern has two rechargeable AA cells. Try replacing these with alkaline batteries (take note of polarity), and the lanterns should work. These cells can be removed after the show and re-used until exhausted.

I just purchased a solar-powered set of patio lanterns which didn’t come with any kind of instructions. One day I’ll have to go to the store and get some but until then, maybe I could find some help here. They are all joined together with a main solar panel. This main solar panel has an on/off switch as do the 8 solar powered lanterns. I have hung the lanterns where I want them, I have turned all of the switches on the lanterns to the on position and have mounted the main solar panel in a spot that will find sunshine in the day. If you really want to repair and not just replace you can probably do that also. With lamp unplugged break the socket in the middle where you see two rows of crimped metal inserted into each other. They are a friction fit wiggle and perhaps pry with a small screw driver to get them apart. You should then be able to lift the insides of the socket out. (It is possible that the wires will be so tight that you can’t and that requires removing the wires) But, assuming you can, you should be able to trace the course of the chain around the socket to a small yoke into which a ball of your chain hooks. Replace it and reassemble in reverse order. If your chain is broken so that it is too short replacement is available at most any neighborhood hardware store.

(the fourth setting is off) at every 1/4 gear turn, it connects a different part of the circuit to allow electricity to pass through it and to the corresponding lamps. the fourth setting (off) doesnt have an electrical connections assigned to it.
