Ceramic Table Lamps For Living Room
Table Lamps From a Living Tradition
The Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co have just added a new range of decorative reproduction table lamps to their collection.
The company is well known for their extensive range of antique lighting, i.e., table lamps at least 100 years old. They are now expanding their range to add vintage and contemporary porcelain lamps in antique style, thus continuing a living tradition. By example, China is well represented, with its unique one thousand year history of porcelain production and multitude of shapes and styles to draw from. Some of the decorations they have included were first created during the Ming dynasty, circa 1450.
The lamps pictured were reproduced to commemorate the most expensive vase ever sold. This original Ming vase was purchased in May 2006 by American, Steve Wynn for US,200,000, who then donated it to the Macau museum!
Tiffany Solar Lamps
The Story Behind Antique Tiffany Lamps
No other lamp is sought out by antique collectors quite like the lamps made by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his studio in New York. These stained glass lamps came from his artistic ability to control light and work with glass for a beautifully unique combination. The studio created and produced many products out of glass and today these fine pieces fetch a high price at auction houses and antique shops.
The studio worked mostly in blown glass and glass tiles from its inception until 1878. But it was that year in which Tiffany created his first opalescent glass window. Despite legal disputes as well as significant social mudslinging with John LaFarge over who came up with the idea for opalescent glass first, Tiffany made stained glass windows extremely popular with the wealthy.
These stained glass panels were constructed by cutting the needed pieces for a pattern out of large sheets of colored glass. Of course there was plenty of waste off of each sheet of opalescent glass which Tiffany eventually began using to make his stained glass lamps. Of course these lamps did not start out exactly as those, which come to mind at first for most people.
When many people think of Tiffany table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, and more those constructed from the pieces of stained glass are what first come to mind. But before he made these lamps he was constructing other styles, which bore his name. These glass lamps were made with blown glass globes as well as other forms of blown glass.
It was in 1899 that the company started creating their lamps with a heavy bronze base combined with the intricately worked glass shade. This shade was made much like his stained glass panels but instead of a flat pattern the glass was in the form of a shade. This was accomplished with a lead frame holding together the pieces of opalescent glass just like his famous windows.
These lamps had many features that made them desirable back in the turn of the century and they are still the features that are sought even today. Constructed with heavy bronze bases, which provided not only a sturdy but also an elegant foundation to hold the delicate glass shade. Each shade was hand constructed using beautiful stained glass, which diffused light pleasantly and evenly. These shades were so well made that even today they will not break unless handled carelessly or perhaps dropped. Each Tiffany lamp was carefully finished off with the best wiring and fittings for a lamp that in many cases still operates like new today despite the years.
Today antique collectors quickly grab these lamps when they become available often paying top dollar for the piece. For those who cannot afford the cost of a true antique Tiffany lamp they can purchase a modern lamp with wonderful details using the same patterns in stained glass lamp reproductions.
Contemporary Desk Lamps
Desk Lamps and Their Many Different Styles
Types Of Desk Lamps
While other types of lighting cast a harsher light and promote a business-like aura. Desk lamps come in many different types including Tiffany, Banker, Modern and Traditional models. This article introduces the different types of desk lamps in order that you can find one that best suits your needs.
Tiffany Desk Lamps
Tiffany style desk lamps are probably the most unique style you will see. These desk lamps are based loosely on the designs Louis Comfort Tiffany. Tiffany created unique stained-glass lamps at the turn of the last century. Offering an array of styles that range from pleasant and warm to unique and even startling, Tiffany style lamps are available with metal or wood bases, with or without adjustable extension arms and often come with ornate metal and glass shade. If you want a desk lamp with a style in its own class, Tiffany lamps offer several varieties.
Banker Desk Lamps
Banker desk lamps come with a sense of nostalgia. With its classic green glass shade and gold pull chain, these lamps create an instantly warm feeling and hint at a time long past. Used originally by bankers who studiously pored over bank ledgers, banker desk lamps cast a strong warm light to brightly illuminate the work area. Since the classic green style banker lamp became popular years ago, other styles of banker desk lamps have been introduced. Modern models can include balance arms to adjust the cast of the light as well as light gold glass shades instead of the classic green. From traditional models to more contemporary versions, the banker desk lamp is a good fit in nearly any home office.

Torchere Lamps
3 Retro Lamps That Will Add Pizzazz To Your Home Decor
It seems that history always repeats itself, whether in a family, politics or even style and fashion. Slowly the clothing styles of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and even (oh, no) the 80’s have doubled back and been passed off as the hottest new fashions. This is equally true for interior design. It seems that people get tired of looking at the new designs, which have become old, and they want something new…which is really just more of the old. It’s a vicious cycle.
Retro furniture, lamps and other interior decorating favorites may be gone, but never forgotten. It doesn’t take very many tries to find a website or retailer that specializes in retro furniture. Retro lamps are particularly fun because of the bright colors and crazy shapes they can be. Especially in the 1960’s and 70’s, anything could be fashionable, and just about everything was. Colors we wouldn’t dream of using in our homes today were splashed all over the walls and the carpet looked like it needed to be mowed. But that was the style, and it’s not hard to find again.
The 1960’s is when the interior design world first got a glimpse at the cone lamp. This retro lamp sported three or more adjustable cone shaped lights that rested on three separate arms protruding from the base of the lamp. The arms could be bent and turned in any direction to point light at anywhere you wanted it to go. This style has hung on throughout the years if for nothing else but its ingenious design. Though the idea is still used today, the original lamp gets a spot in the retro hall of fame, especially if you can find it in avocado green.
Another fabulously retro lamp that we can thank the 1970’s for is the Modern Arco Lamp. Why in the world would you want to have a perfectly straight lamp on the left side of your chair for reading when you can have this retro lamp sitting on your right and arcing over your head to end up on your left side? Any retro decorated room is incomplete without one of these monsters; just make sure you have the room for a retro lamp as big as this.
Yet another retro lamp that has actually had a huge impact on today’s lamp styles is the torch floor lamp from the 1950’s. Though there were torchiere lamps before that time, this design modernized it into a style that is still quite popular. Now you can find torchiere lamps with a variety of energy saving bulbs from compact fluorescent to halogen. It’s really not a retro lamp, but deserves to be recognized for its pioneering efforts toward today’s interior decorating.
If you’re looking to use retro lamps in your design scheme, there are more than enough out there to choose from, and most are being produced today so you don’t have to spend a killing at an antique store. Just do yourself a favor and stay away from lava lamps. There is retro, and just plain ugly, you decide.

QUESTION:
How can I prevent my window A/C unit from tripping the circuit?
I live on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a row house that was built in the 1800s and rennovated about 10-15 years ago. Last night I put a window a/c unit (provided by the landlord) in a 2nd floor window, but every time I turned it on it would trip the circuit breaker for the whole 2nd floor after running for only 10 minutes. The only other things running on the circuit were: 1 fridge, 1 light (halogen torchere lamp), and 1 tv. I don’t know the power rating or amps off the top of my head, but the unit is probably at least 10 years old. I had the a/c unit plugged into a surge protector, but it always tripped at the circuit breaker and not at the surge protector. Is there anything I can do to prevent the a/c from overloading the circuit, short of calling an electrician? It seems a little ridiculous to me that the circuit can’t handle 4 appliances – am I missing some important part of the equation?
How do I get a dedicated circuit for the a/c? It seems to me that the entire 2nd floor is on one circuit (although I know next to nothing about circuits, so I could be very wrong). If the entire 2nd floor IS on one circuit, the only way to get the a/c and frige on separate circuits would be to unplug the fridge whenever I want to turn on the a/c – which isn’t exactly practical. Do I need to get an electrician in to install another circuit?-
ANSWER:
this is your problem and how to solve it 1 refrigidare and air conditioner cannot be on same circuit for any reason….do not put bigger fuse in …..what you need is either a dedicated circuit to the fridge or the air conditioner….or you could move the ac somewhere else so that it will be on a circuit with something that uses very little power such as tv or plug in lamps..

Led Desk Lamps
Growing Plants Indoors With LED Grow Lights
Having a versatile and easy to set up and move around growing system in your home or greenhouse is 00004000 an important part of any indoor growing system. The LED grow lightsare designed to be as efficient as possible so that they do exactly what you want them to do.
This type of light is designed to only produce the specific type of light that plants need for growth. The spectrum of light has a lot of different colors and each color has different properties. There is only a small part of that spectral that is used in the photosynthesis process. By using these lights, it is possible plants can grow without getting the large bulky lights.
The lights are low wattage, using less power to produce more led light. People can save a lot of money if they are using the other lights already and switch over to the LED’s. The extra energy that you save is good for the environment as well. As someone who wants plant life in their home, it is likely that being eco friendly is important to you, and so these lights make more sense than many others.

QUESTION:
Can I use a 32-watt LED desk lamp as a temporary light for starting seedlings?
I am wondering if I can use a 32-watt desk lamp in order to start some tomato seeds for a period of about 10 days before I transplant ‘em into the ground.-
ANSWER:
Plants use a microscopically small amount of the light range in order to photosynthesise, typically in part of the blue and red range. Your LED lamp will be emitting most of its light outside of this range, so it won’t be fantastically helpful to your plant, though some of it will be of use. A 32 watt LED is fairly powerful, so if it’s fairly close to your plants it should have fairly strong intensity, meaning that the portion of the light spectrum that your seedlings will want to use will be reasonably useful. For a very short period of time it should allow your seedlings to grow away, though they may strain and elongate, due to a shortage of light, which may leave them a little weaker. The shorter the period of time that they’re using this as their only light source, the better. As weaker plants are stressed, and stressed plants are more prone to fungal and insect attacks, as well as other problems, it’s important to keep them as strong and healthy as you can. There’s an answer here that outlines more about the narrowly limited needs of plants from light sources, including daylight http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100317083835AAzY9f2
If there’s any potential to use a specific light that produces the light frequencies that plants need, often marketed as grow lamps, then you will be giving your plant much greater strength and growth potential. These bulbs are significantly more expansive than standard bulbs, and this can be prohibitive. I’d take a chance on 10 days, if you can site the bulb close to the seedlings, but ensure that there is no excessive heat emitted, as this would dry and stress your seedlings further. Usually LED bulbs run cold, so it’s not the issue that it is with other bulb types.
Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Dale Tiffany Table Lamps
Table Floor Lamps And Several Types Of Lighting In A Household
The appearance of a household is just undeniably way nicer when the illumination is done well. This means that there is not too much light nor should there be a deficiency of it. In every corner of the house, in every position, there is a purpose or an ambience that can be accomplished by proper illumination. Various sorts of lights can be utilized for distinct intentions. There are table floor lamps, outdoor lamps, pendant lights among many others. They can be applied for decoration, for ambience or for a limited intent.
For example, the kitchen can have both functional and cosmetic lighting. Kitchens cannot have a deficiency of lighting as miniature details should be seen and handled here in cooking. It does not have to be blazing with light either. Just spot illumination on the key areas is enough. The kitchen can have nonfunctional lighting too as it can make use of pendant lights and other classes of lights that can do task lighting and decorate a space as well. The bedchamber for the most part has lights for ambience except of course for the bedside lamp that is and can be used for reading. The bathroom can have dressing table lighting for the mirror and ambient illumination for the whole room. The exterior of a house can have outside lighting for that ambient appearance or for safety against intruders. It can both have a welcoming appearance and a keep-off look because of the illumination.

Light Lamps
Indoor Grow Light Basic Overview – Fluorescent & LED Grow Light Lamps
These days fluorescent grow lights (available in various color temperature ranging from 2800K to 6000K) are mostly used for starting seedlings and growing green leafy vegetables and herbs. Cool white fluorescent lights are also sometimes used for this purpose. In comparison to the above described lamps, fluorescent ones last much longer (for about 20,000 hours) and emit two times more lumens per watt of the consumed energy. In addition, they are quite cost-effective.
High output fluorescent lamps are even stronger than standard ones: they produce an average 5,000 lumens per 54 watt bulb and can be purchased in warm (3000K) and cool (6500K) variants. Their life span is as many as 10,000 hours. Moreover, these lamps are very convenient to use in the indoor gardens with low ceilings due to the fixtures with extremely thin profiles.

QUESTION:
For Seasonal Affective Disorder, what’s the difference between full-spectrum bulbs and light therapy lamps?
For treating SAD, is there a difference between using full-spectrum light bulbs in your regular lamps and buying the expensive (0+) light therapy lamps? I’ve visited websites that recommend the bulbs for treating SAD, and others that say to buy the 10,000 lux lamps. Which is better and why? Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Those full-size bulbs use a lot more electricity and are more breakable than the smaller LED light therapy boxes. Not as portable either. I bought a small LED light box several years ago and am very happy with it, it is very effective for my winter blahs. When we have a spell of cloudy weather, I turn it on for my parakeets in the morning, they face toward the light and sing a pretty song, they are happy to get the light too. The LED light boxes are also cool to the touch.I had chickens about 30 years ago when I lived out in the country. They wouldn’t lay eggs very often all through the winter months. Someone told me if I put a light on them that they would lay eggs. So I strung a 100-watt bulb in the chicken house and turned it on, I had eggs all winter from then on.

QUESTION:
Solar Powered Indoor Plant Lamp?
I am planning on trying to make a circuit that will provide light to my indoor vegetable garden. I want it to be able to charge via sunlight during the day then used at night. I want it to power CFL’s for the light source. Actually which light bulbs/whatever would be best for an indoor garden? Thanks in advance! :]
Thanks to those who are answering my gardening help, but I need help with making a electronic circuit, similar to a joule thief, to power a CFL bulb but charging during the day via solar energy.-
ANSWER:
You can use Compact fluorescent light bulb. It have more light than full-size fluorescent grow lights. They are also a popular choice for home gardeners because they are inexpensive, available in many common stores, and can be used in regular light sockets. They are especially good for shelf gardening because their low heat allows you to place lights on shelves that are stacked on top of each other. Smaller plants and seedlings can thrive in a well-designed indoor garden lit with fluorescent grow lights.Solar powered indoor lighting lamp is a great way to reduce electrical bills while saving energy. Because it relies on the sun for power, this lighting lamp doesn’t create greenhouse gas emissions nor contribute to the depletion of the natural resources of the planet.

If you could also be specific in your answers ; how many watts in a solar panel should I be buying? I haven’t bought the solar panel yet.I.E : Canadian Tire has a 10 watt solar panel for . Will this work? Check out the link.
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/Green/EnergyConservation/RenewableEnergy/PRDOVR~0111895P/Eliminator%2BSolar%2BPanel%252C%2B10W.jsp
-
ANSWER:
First, figure out how many hours you want to run the lamp. Lets say ten hours for a nice, round number. That times 450 watts gives us 4500 watts of required energy. That little 10 watt panel would need to run 450 hours to give you that much energy. I would recommend getting a 450 watt panel which, if in full sunlight for 10 hours would give you the energy to power your light for ten hours at night.
You also need batteries that will store enough energy to power your light for the required time.
Now, here comes the expensive part. You will need 4500 Watt/hours, which when divided by 12 volts (car battery), means you need 375 Amp hours in battery capacity.
I use semi truck batteries which give you 200 Amp hours each at 12 volts. These run about 0 each.
And you need an inverter that provides at least 500 watts continuous power.
In summary. 450 Watt solar panel, 2x 200Ah semi truck batteries (or 4x 100Ah marine deep cycle batteries) and a 500 watt inverter.
If you want to save on batteries, I get them for each. I go to semi truck repair shops and pay the core charge for sulfated batteries. Look for batteries with no outward, visible damage and that are less than a year old. I use a special battery restoring charger that brings them back into service. See link below.

Led Reading Lamps
LED Light Technology Today
It’s a pretty interesting scene. We will field calls or inquiries about LED lighting for a given business or group and invariably, the same thing happens. They like the cost savings from LED lights but they have misgivings about the light quality. This is especially true or architects and builders who are very particular about the quality of light and have no doubt seen the early stages of LED lighting which is loosely translated at bluish or stark white light you would expect coming down from the mother ship. Those days are gone and we personally say good riddance. You can preach the improvements in LED light color all you want but our relationship with light and color are primitive and very personal. The eye’s got to see it to believe it. That’s where the scene above ends. We plug one of our new color tuned LED bulbs in the socket and they stand there still for a while. They want to hold on to the old belief that the light’s color will look wrong but you can’t argue with your eyes…and win. It’s a great feeling and it’s a result of technological breakthroughs in the last few years that make LED the only choice once you know the facts.
A very common reaction to contemplating new technology such as the move to LED lighting is a fear of having your new purchase obsolete by the time it’s installed. The computer and technology markets haven’t exactly helped here. So where are we in terms of LED lighting and what’s around the corner? We look at this question in two separate parts. First, does current LED do everything we need or expect from existing incandescent or fluorescent technology? Yes. We now have color tuning where we can even specify according to your Kelvin color requirements which is pretty advanced. It doesn’t stop there. We also have dimmable bulbs and all the different lamp form factors you need from spots, strips, and floods. Let us know what requirements you have and we’ll find the LED equivalent for it. The best part is that we can do all of this with much less energy costs which over a 5 year window can result in 90-400% savings depending on the use.
So what about the future? We’re even more excited about our position going forward. In fact, we believe the LED light technology will be one that other manufacturers and suppliers will have to catch up with for a very long time. The beauty of our LED lights is the entire lamp doesn’t need to be thrown out like the others do. The actual lights are solid state which means they could last for years. Our light allows to switch out the driver which is essentially a chip that pushes electricity to the LED. The cost to replace this piece is substantially less expensive than to switch out the entire light as is required by other LED lights. This is the direction to go and you’ll have a head start on the LED technology for years to come.
Ultimately, the decision you need to make right now is this…do the number work? As described in our How Does LED Save You Money? article, the number work and the savings are significant. Not next year or 5 years later but right now. Let’s take a look at your particular lighting situation by request a LED light quote.

QUESTION:
How do LED lamps reduce consumption of electricity if they are connected via resistors?
I have read that LED lamps reduce the consumption of electricity to a great extent. But are they connected to the circuit along with resistors? In such case how they reduce the consumption of electricity?-
ANSWER:
Despite using resistors and making some heat, they are efficient, in that more of the power goes to making light rather than heat.

QUESTION:
how to build an LED lamp (DIY)?
If I have LED bulbs how do I connect them into a circuit? I am not aiming at building a reading lamp (as I have enough of those). I just want to learn how to hook up LED bulbs to produce an array of bulbs which I can plug in etc and light up my room. 10x-
ANSWER:
well for LED’s you should have a dc power source, what do you plan on powering it with? you can run it off of you household 120V AC power, but you will first need to make a simple Full Wave Bridge Rectifier, perhaps with a capacitor so they won’t flicker as much at 60Hz. plans for these can easily be found online. Now remember that LED’s only light when you apply power in the correct direction so you have to make sure they are all facing the same way. Depending on your power source you have to make sure that each LED gets the right voltage. first, how many volts are these LED’s supposed to take? if you have a 6 volt circuit and you LED’s require 3 volts to operate, you will want to connect them in series, that way they share the voltage. with 12 volts you would use 4 LED’s now say you have 8 LED’s and a 12v power source, you would make two chains as in the previous example and connect them in parallel. All of these terms can easily be found on Wikipedia by the way. Now if you plugged this into the wall you would need around 40 LED’s in series assuming you have 120V service and that you already made a Rectifier. This number can be reduced by using a step down transformer to reduce the 120V to a lower AC voltage, you would still have to rectify it into DC, but you would no longer require as many LED’s. Welcome to simple electric circuits.

QUESTION:
whats the difference between an LED tv and a LCD tv with an LED backlight?
i want to buy a new tv blah blah blah……..
i read somewhere that LED tv are lcd display, but the lights in teh back are different LED uses obviously LED’s and LCDs use a series of lamps, so there shouldnt be a difference between an LED tv and LCD tv with an LED tv right?
just hoping for a clear answer, thanks!-
ANSWER:
There are only two true LED televisions currently available in the U.K.:
The Sony XEL-1 (11″ screen – costs around £1,000)
The LG 15EL-9500 (15″ screen – also costs around £1,000).All the other “LED” televisions you can buy are merely LCD televisions, with LED back-lights. Every single one of them.
The “LED” part is nothing more than a marketing gimmick – it’s surprising just many people have fallen for it, though…

Decorative Desk Lamps
Shopping Tips: Choosing Your Floor Lamp
Before you buy a floor lamp there are certain things that you might want to keep in mind. First of all you need to know that floor lamps were considered to be more dangerous than other lamps until the last decade or so when technology and good design helped fix some of the problems that made this style of lamp flawed in the first place.
For instance, historically, floor lamps have always been known to tip over. Nowadays there is a standard that contemporary floor lamps must meet call the UL “tipability” standard. This means that the floor lamp you are buying has a much heavier base and there is less danger of it falling over and landing, say, on a sofa cushion and setting it on fire.
Yet another feature of floor lamps that made them dangerous for years was the cords. The cords were made of cloth and easily caught fire with the slightest of power surges. Nowadays floor lamps are made with a plastic zip cord rather than the old cloth cords. The old cloth cords also used to fray and it was much easier for an animal or child to chew through them or get accidentally shocked just by touching it.
The fact that most antique lamps do not have a standardized non-tippable base or a safe electrical cord is why you are probably better off to buy a new floor lamp then one from an antique store. It is just safer.
Yet another reason is that the very old floor lamps attached their lampshades through a wire clamp that was attached to the shade itself. This style of clamp for attaching light bulbs is also obsolete.
However if you do find the floor lamp of your dreams there is no reason why you can’t take it to an electrician or antique dealer to see what can be done to refurbish it. This is done all of the time to recycle old floor lamps. It is probably a good idea not to try and rewire an old lamp yourself unless you
are an experienced electrician.
Although rewiring an old floor lamp is easy, making sure the base is stable is not. All it takes is one wild child or unruly dog to tip it over and you could have a fire on your hands.
Floor lamps come in an incredible number of styles nowadays including all of the retro looks that you would find in an antique store and all of the more contemporary styles. As you browse online to shop for floor lamps it is quite common to find them in every style imaginable including Mission, Seventies Retro, Tiffany, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts, Country, Late Victorian and Gas. You can also find modern Swedish
styles that include shades shaped like upside down frying pans and large metallic mixing bowls.
Nowadays floor lamps come in every type of finish and shade including glass, porcelain and brushed metal and there are some very unique, beautiful and interesting contemporary floor lamps, as well as the more traditional styles, around.

QUESTION:
Looking for a certain type of hardware type thing…?
This might be the strangest question I’ve ever asked. I don’t know what its called or if this sort of thing even exists (but I swear I’ve seen it somewhere, if only in my Lego bucket as a kid…) I hope I can explain what I’m envisioning well enough that somebody can tell me what it is called or if such a thing exists…Basically what I’m looking for is a bracket/brace sort of deal used to connect two bolts to each other at 90 degree angles. What it would amount to is a small ring of metal next to another small ring of metal turned 90 degrees, thats it. If I still haven’t explained it well enough, take your two hands and make circles with them and place them next to each other. then turn one so that you can look through it and the other is perpendicular to you.
I’m looking for this to be pretty small too, with about 3/16″ holes. Non-threaded is probably better, but I could make due either way. If anything like this exists, please let me know. I don’t have access to any sort of welding/torching/soldering equipment, either, so tacking two pieces of anything together isn’t really an option
(You know, I hate going out and buying new things because one part of the old one wears out. When replacement parts are unavailable, a little self-engineering is called for. In this case its a swing arm desk lamp… they make all sorts of replacement parts for decorative lamps but it seems the practical ones are neglected)

QUESTION:
Where can i find teen bedroom accessories?
Good websites to find comforters, night stands, dressers, desks, vanity, lounge chairs, throw pillows, blankets, rungs, lamps, string lights, wall decorations, storage, picture frames, mirrors, decorative cork boards and magnetic dry erase boards, desk accessories? I want to do a zebra and hot pink theme and Im trying to find accessories to match.. Please help! I’ve already looked at PBteen.com and wakeupfrankie.com, but they’re a little pricey… Any othe websites?-
ANSWER:
I’m assuming you’ve already bought bedding, if not, maybe something like this:http://www.beyond-bedding.com/hot-pink-zebra-print-full-queen-teens-kids-bedding-set.html
For furniture, try ikea.com – it will be inexpensive and you’ll be able to get the night stands, dressers, and desks there. I’d go with either white or black furniture to complement the bedding.
You can also try walmart and target if you are concerned with price.Wall decorations- The bedding set shows wall hangings which can be purchased at the same site as the bedding (beyond-bedding). In addition, you can buy decorative throw pillows, windows treatments, Funky Zebra Fabric Memory/Memo Photo Bulletin Board, and even lamp shades
Frames – Buy these anywhere. You can get these very cheaply. I’d suggest a can of spray paint so you can change the color of the frames for a customized look (I’d spray a few black, a few white and perhaps a few hot pink – though you could easily paint a zebra design – cheap and easy)
Mirrors – Again, buy the cheapest mirror you can find and custom paint it (Walmart or other discount store). If you must have a zebra print mirror, check this one out:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=zebra+mirror&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=8249285435254738615&ei=pIckTc7QL8T48Aayo8CGAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDgQ8wIwAw#
Rug – Walmart has several different style choices. Like this one:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Home-Dynamix-Zone-7160-Zebra-Print-Rug/12087183?findingMethod=rr
Blanket/Throw: Again, walmart has a cheap solution that comes in several colors
http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=zebra+throw&ic=48_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=4044
As far as accessorizing goes, keep in mind that a little zebra goes a long way. If you have zebra print bedding, you may want to consider solids for the lounge chair and/or throw and accent pillows. I’d pick up a lot of solids for accessories (black or white vase maybe with hot pink flowers) again, solid colored picture frames. Walmart also sells cork boards. You can paint these or cover them in a zebra fabric (or complementary fabric) and embellish it with grosgrain hot pink ribbon.
Please remember that a cheap can of spray paint can help you achieve the look you are after. Best of Luck.

ANSWER:
I would say a floor lamp, unless you really like florescent lighting (I am not a fan), a desk lamp is not always enough. New college students always forget medicine, if you catch a cold and wake up at 3 in the morning throwing up, that is not the time to drive to the store! Just get a little kit, like cold/cough medicine, a regular pain medicine, some band-aids (bleeding is also not a good time to drive to the store), and anything for something that you have experienced semi-regularly in the last couple of years. I was really happy that I brought a nightstand with me to put junk on/in, unless your desk is right next to your bed.A little great thing to have is the plastic things filled with sand that hold papers up, those are great, especially when correcting drafts of paper and are about a dollar. Underarmor heat gear or thermal stuff is nice. I live in Missouri and our winters get rough, so I am always happy to have some to put under my clothes. Oh, and drapes would be great, unless you like off-while mini-blinds, I had some awesome striped ones, which added a lot of color to the very white room.
Also, if you have room-mates it is certainly a shared responsibility, but I am sure they would appreciate it if you brought some cleaning supplies, it is really a nice thing to do. You really only need an all-purpose hard surface cleaner, a carpet cleaner is your dorm in carpeted, and a sponge.
I also advise you to get something like All Small and Mighty, it is very concentrated detergent, so it is much less heavy! I wouldn’t take seven bath towels, where are you going to put them, that’s a whole separate container for towels! Unless you just have loads of room and want a separate towel hamper I would probably say four, because towels touch you when you are the cleanest you’re going to be you can use them twice.
